Acute bacterial prostatitis is caused by bacteria and is manifested by burning sensations when urinating, frequent urination with a weakened urine stream, pain in the bladder region and perineal area, as well as fever and chills. Bacterial prostatitis can be diagnosed relatively easily based on these typical symptoms as well as tactile and bacterial findings. It can usually be successfully treated with antibiotics.

However, more than 90% of inflammations are chronic nonbacterial prostatitis. In this case, no bacteria can be detected as the causative agent of prostate inflammation. Fever and chills are also not involved
