Calcivit D® chewable tablets, 600 mg/400 IU
Active ingredients: calcium carbonate and cholecalciferol

Areas of application:
To compensate for combined vitamin D and calcium deficiencies in elderly patients; for vitamin D and calcium supplementation as an adjunct to specific treatment for osteoporosis in patients who have been identified as having combined vitamin D and calcium deficiencies or are at high risk of developing such deficiencies.

field of use
• The drug is a vitamin and mineral supplement
• The medicine is applied
• as a vitamin D and calcium supplement to support a specific therapy, to prevent and treat osteoporosis.
• For the prevention and treatment of vitamin D and calcium deficiencies in the elderly.
Contraindications
• The medicine must not be taken
• if you have a known hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or any of the other ingredients,
• if you have any medical conditions or conditions that can cause high levels of calcium in your blood or urine;
• if you suffer from kidney stones;
• if you have too high a vitamin D level (hypervitaminosis).
dosage
• Always take the medicine exactly as instructed in this leaflet. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
• Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose is:
• Adults take 1 chewable tablet 1 to 2 times daily.
• The drug must not be taken by patients with severe kidney dysfunction. No dose adjustment is required in hepatic impairment.
• Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you think that the effect of the medicine is too strong or too weak.
• If you take more of the medicine than you should
• A single overdose is usually without consequences.
• Signs of overdose are only to be expected with long-term, excessive intake of the drug or additional intake of other calcium preparations. Signs of an overdose are: increased thirst and fluid intake, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, fatigue and abnormally increased urination.
• If you suspect an overdose, please notify your doctor. Depending on the severity of the overdose, he can decide what action to take, if any.
• If you forget to take the medicine
• Do not take a double dose, if you have forgotten a dose, stick with the previous dose.
• If you have any further questions on the use of the medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

• Special care when taking the drug is required in the following cases
• If you suffer from a certain lung disease (sarcoidosis). There is a risk of increased conversion of vitamin D to its active form. Blood and urine calcium levels should be monitored.
• During long-term treatment with the drug, your doctor must control the serum calcium level and monitor the kidney function by measuring the serum creatinine level. Monitoring is particularly important in elderly patients who are taking concomitant medicines that increase heart strength (cardiac glycosides) or water tablets (diuretics) (see Interactions).
• If you are prescribed other vitamin D preparations at the same time, your doctor should take into account the daily dose of up to 800 IU of vitamin D administered with the medicine.
• Additional intake of other vitamin D-containing preparations should only take place under close medical supervision. In these cases, regular monitoring of blood and urine calcium levels is required.
• If you suffer from immobilisation osteoporosis, as there is an increased risk of developing hypercalcaemia.
• If you suffer from renal dysfunction, vitamin D should be used cautiously with monitoring of calcium and phosphate levels. In severe kidney dysfunction, vitamin D in the form of colecalciferol is not metabolized normally. Your doctor should therefore prescribe you another vitamin D supplement.
• The medicine can be harmful to teeth.
• Driving and using machines
• There are no special precautions required.

• pregnancy and breast feeding period
• During pregnancy, the daily intake should not exceed 1500 mg of calcium and 600 IU of vitamin D3. You should therefore not take more than one chewable tablet of the medicine per day.
• Vitamin D overdoses must be avoided in pregnant women, as persistently elevated blood calcium levels have been associated with deleterious effects on the developing fetus. There is no evidence that vitamin D in therapeutic doses in humans leads to malformations in the unborn child. If calcium and vitamin D deficiency occurs during pregnancy, the drug can be taken.
• Calcium and vitamin D3 pass into breast milk. This should be considered if the child is given additional vitamin D3.
• Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking/using any medicine.
