Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) is a sulfur-containing acid found in every cell of the body. It plays a key role in producing the energy the body needs to function properly. The body produces ALA naturally, in minute quantities.

Alpha-lipoic acid exists in two forms. The R form is produced naturally by the body, while the S form is obtained artificially and is said to be less active.

Metabolic treatment.

Endowed with significant antioxidant power, ALA has the advantage of being soluble in both water (water-soluble) and fat (fat-soluble), enabling it to neutralize several types of free radicals, since it can act in both environments. For this reason, it is sometimes referred to as auniversal antioxidant. AAL also has the ability to partially recycle other antioxidants, notably vitamin E, vitamin C and glutathione, thereby increasing their life span and effectiveness. It also has the ability to trap toxic metals such as arsenic, cadmium and mercury.
