Women who are prone to repeated vaginal infections can use lactic acid bacteria or lactic acid to restore or maintain a healthy and therefore immune vaginal environment and thus help prevent vaginal infections themselves.

The use of lactic acid bacteria makes sense if the vaginal flora is permanently disturbed and needs to be rebuilt. Preparations with lactic acid are useful if there are still enough lactic acid bacteria in the vagina and the remaining vaginal flora should be supported through acidification.
