The treatment requires taking a tablet once. The effectiveness of the treatment is greater the sooner you start taking it after unprotected sexual intercourse. The tablet must therefore be taken as soon as possible after unprotected intercourse, preferably within 12 hours, but in no case later than 72 hours (3 days) afterwards.
Vikela can be taken at any point in the menstrual cycle.
If vomiting occurs within 3 hours of taking the tablet, another tablet should be taken immediately.
After using the emergency contraceptive, it is recommended to use local contraceptive methods (e.g. condom, spermicide, vaginal diaphragm) until the next menstrual period begins. Taking Vikela does not exclude the continued use of the usual hormonal contraceptive.
