The active ingredients of the extract are flavonoid glycosides, ginkgolides and bilobalides.
Ginkofar Extra is used:
to improve cognitive abilities in older people (age-related decline in memory and mental performance),
to improve quality of life in mild dementia.
Contraindications
When should you not use Ginkofar Extra?
if you are allergic to ginkgo biloba leaf extract or any of the other ingredients of this medicine,
if you are pregnant
Warnings
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Gincofar Extra if you have an increased tendency to bleed (bleeding diathesis).
People taking anticoagulants or antiplatelet medications (called blood thinners) should consult their doctor before taking this medication. Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist that you are taking Gincofar Extra.
It is recommended that you stop taking Gincofar Extra at least 3-4 days before a planned surgical or dental procedure, such as a tooth extraction. Caution should be exercised in patients with epilepsy, since the occurrence of further seizures cannot be ruled out while taking Gincofar Extra. Do not use higher doses than recommended. If allergy symptoms appear, stop using the drug. If your symptoms do not improve or worsen while taking the medicine, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Children and youth
Ginkofar Extra should not be used in children and adolescents due to the lack of indications and limited data on the safety of its use in this group of patients.
Ginkofar Extra and other drugs
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or may be taking any other medicines (including over-the-counter medicines). In particular, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you regularly take any of the following medications:
anticoagulants (phenprocoumon, warfarin)
antiplatelet agents (clopidogrel, acetylsalicylic acid and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). The simultaneous use of the above drugs and Ginkofar Intens may increase the risk of bleeding.
You should also tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking the following medicines:
efavirenz (used to treat HIV infection),
nifedipine (used to treat high blood pressure),
talinolol (used to treat heart disease and high blood pressure),
dabigatran (used to prevent blood clots).
Ginkofar Extra with food and drinks
Ginkofar Extra is taken orally, regardless of meals, with water. It is not recommended to take the drug with alcohol.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine. Ginkofar Extra is contraindicated for use during pregnancy due to the lack of sufficient data and the risk of an increased tendency to bleeding. Due to the lack of sufficient data, Ginkofar Extra is not recommended for use during breastfeeding.
Driving and using cars
There is no data on the effect on the ability to drive a car or operate machinery.
Ginkofar Extra contains lactose.
If your doctor has told you that you have an intolerance to certain sugars, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
How to use
The recommended dose of Ginkofar Extra for adults is 1 tablet once a day.
Treatment should last at least 8 weeks. If your symptoms worsen or do not improve after 3 months of taking the medicine, consult your doctor. After three months, ask your doctor if you should continue treatment.
Use in children and adolescents. Ginkofar Extra should not be used in children and adolescents.
Ginkofar Extra is taken orally, regardless of meals, with water. The score line on the tablet makes it easier to break and swallow.
Storage
Store in original packaging. Do not use this medicine after the expiration date stated on the package and blister. The expiration date means the last day of a given month.
Ingredients
The active ingredient of the drug is a dry extract of Ginkgo biloba leaves. Each film-coated tablet contains 240 mg of quantitative dry extract of ginkgo leaves (Ginkgo biloba L., folium) (35–67: 1), which corresponds to:
from 52.8 to 64.8 mg of flavonoids, expressed as flavonoid glycosides,
from 6.72 to 8.16 mg ginkgolides A, B and C,
From 6.24 to 7.68 mg bilobalide. Solvent used for first extraction: acetone 65% v/v.
Other Ingredients:
tablet core: microcrystalline cellulose, crospovidone, lactose monohydrate, talc, magnesium stearate, croscarmellose sodium, colloidal anhydrous silicon dioxide;
tablet shell: polyvin alcohol
