As part of the complex therapy of inflammatory diseases of the musculoskeletal system: rheumatoid arthritis, Bekhterev’s disease, deforming osteoarthritis (in the presence of periarticular tissue damage); in arthropathy, stretching of tendons during impact, in traumatic infiltrates, acute and chronic osteomyelitis, streptoderma, purulent wounds, abscesses.

It is also used in skin and plastic surgery – for engraftment of transplanted skin auto- and homografts, as well as for preservation of skin homografts.

Contraindication.

Increased sensitivity to the drug. Cardiovascular failure, severe atherosclerosis, angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, kidney or liver dysfunction, stroke, comatose states, glaucoma, cataracts.
Method of application and dosage.

They are used in the form of aqueous solutions (30-50% concentration) for compresses, tampons.

Gauze napkins moistened with dimexide solution are applied to the damaged areas, capturing the adjacent healthy areas of the skin, once a day for 20-30 minutes. Polyethylene film and cotton or linen fabric are placed on top of the napkin.

Compresses with a 40-90% Dimexide solution are recommended for diffuse streptoderma.

For pustular skin diseases, a 40% solution is used.

In skin and plastic surgery, bandages with a 10-20% solution of the drug are applied to transplanted skin auto- and homografts immediately after operations and in the following days of the postoperative period until the graft is firmly engrafted.

A 5% solution of the drug in Ringer’s solution is used as a preservative for the storage of skin homografts.
Children.

Do not use the drug for children under 12 years of age.
Overdose.

An overdose of the drug can cause allergic reactions (urticaria, edema) and increase the manifestations of side effects, which requires stopping the use of the drug and carrying out symptomatic therapy.

Adverse reactions.

Dimethyl sulfoxide is usually well tolerated, but some patients may experience burning, skin hyperemia, erythema, dry skin, dizziness, headache, insomnia, adynamia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hypersensitivity reactions, including dermatitis, skin rashes, angioedema, itching, bronchospasm. .
